2011 ICT hot trend: Cloud Computing & Smart handheld Devices

According to the survey of Computex Exhibitor Index (CEI) done by Taipei Computer Association (TCA), the organizer of COMPUTEX TAIPEI, showed that the confidence level of Computex's exhibitors in the fourth quarter of 2010 was positive sides at Above Average Grade (CEI: 1.81 rating), which will drive into the first quarter of 2011.

The optimistic views were from the COMPUTEX exhibitors where the manufacturers of hardware products related to Cloud Computing, USB 3.0, Tablet PCs, and eBook Readers including the Smart Handheld Devices will be very prosperous in Q1 of 2011. Such a result also reflects in this year's CeBIT exhibition as the organizer named the conference theme as "Work and Life with the Cloud" where spotlight will shine brightly on the Tablet PCs, eBook Readers, Smart Phone, and newer type of internet accessible products available during the exhibition period. Inline with the same distinctive projection, COMPUTEX 2011 has "Shaping the Future: Smart Mobile Devices connect with Broadband" as its main theme and slogan, which will showcase cloud computing and smart handheld devices are this year's hottest trends in the ICT industry.

Cloud computing and Taiwanese ICT manufacturers

Portable devices
Micro-Star International (MSI) will showcase the 10.1-inch WindPad 110W, its tablet PC featuring AMD dual-core C-50 (Ontario series) APU under Brazos low-power architecture and Widows 7 Home Premium. While Elitegroup Computer System (ECS) is set to showcase its latest 10.1-inch Windows 7 and Android-based tablet PCs; MiTAC introduces the 7-inch and 10-inch Valar High Performance Media Tablet Series,

ASUS will showcase four different tablet computers including the Eee Slate EP121 and Eee Pad MeMO, along with the latest motion-sensing technology called WAVI Xtion, the all-new AMD Brazos-packing K series notebooks and a wide range of gaming products designed for a superior gaming experience.

Storage Systems
PROMISE Technology exhibits latest VTrak S3000 professional storage virtualization platform with fully redundant VTrak Ex30 fiber channel based RAID storage systems. While QNAP showcases the entire lineup of IP SAN Turbo NAS servers with the newest V3.4 management software, the ONVIF-conformant VioStor Pro Series network surveillance systems, and the high definition (HD) NMP-1000P network multimedia player.

Thecus will introduce several amazing novelties including the Superior Enterprise Storage Centers: The N16000 & the N12000 and ready-to-use NVR solutions. Furthermore, Synology is proud to introduce a series of new Synology DiskStation with the release of DSM 3.1, the operating system for all Synology NAS servers.

Networking solutions
Billion Electric will unveil the most up-to-date networking product lines including FTTx solutions, BPL Access, EoC solutions and many other home & SOHO network solutions. As of EDIMAX , the company will be exhibiting the powerful EW-7612UAn 300Mbps Wireless High-Gain USB Adapter. While DrayTek will showcase advance network solutions for residential, unified communications and central management/VPN & security.

Cloud computing in COMPUTEX TAIPEI
Indeed, the cloud computing is the hottest topic since 2010 COMPUTEX TAIPEI and will continue to this year. As the organizer, Taipei Computer Association (TCA) will concentrate more on the smart handheld devices (closely related to portable devices) and wireless broadband connectivity. Initial report suggested that there will be more than 50 Tablet PCs from various exhibitors, particularly from Taiwanese companies will be displayed during the exhibition period. Asus, MSi, Acer and Gigabyte are few names to mention that already displayed their Tablet PC version at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas, USA and also at CeBIT Hannover, Germany.

COMPUTREND is another place in COMPUTEX TAIPEI where international buyers can go to find hottest products, categorized into several pavilions. Beside the 17 pavilions (as of 2010), there are new pavilions added into this year, including the Embedded, IOT, and Smart Handheld to display latest hardware devices and its applications. Prior to COMPUTEX TAIPEI, WiMAX Taipei show will be part of the exhibition, which many Taiwanese communications will display wide range of telecommunication products and CPEs are going to showcase at Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 1.
